Brothers Chris and Daniel O’Connor, stepbrother James Brundle and Chris’s partner Siobhan O’Donnell, have helped to turn a rundown North East London off-licence into a foodie Mecca. The business partners took over the Spar in Walthamstow in 2009 and converted it into a store that champions artisan produce, craft beer and great-tasting pizzas from its in-store pizzeria. Flushed with success, they bought the adjacent building and converted it into a bistro called Eat 17. It was here that Chris O’Connor invented the condiment Bacon Jam, which along with other flavour variants in the range, now has national listings in Tesco and Waitrose. Next on the list for this busy foursome is the opening of a new foodie emporium site in Hackney.
