Dorset-based gourmet food manufacturer Forest Products has won the top prize at the Great Taste Awards, run by the Guild of Fine Food Retailers.

The awards are intended to recognise quality and excellence among suppliers of speciality and fine food.

Forest Products scooped the title of supreme champion for its homemade blackcurrant jam. The company collected its award, which was sponsored by Fortnum & Mason, at a dinner held on the eve of the Speciality & Fine Food Show at Olympia in London.

Forest Products also won the best British speciality category, sponsored by Food from Britain, best English speciality and best speciality from the South West.

The Offbeat Bottling Company, based in Bangor, Northern Ireland, won the reserve champion’s
award, having missed first place by one point.

Bob Farrand, national director of the Guild of Fine Food Retailers, said: “This year’s competition has been truly exceptional. We have had the largest number of entries, with a total of 3,788, and the closest contest in its eight year history.”

He added: “This is testimony to the increasing importance of speciality and fine foods.”
