Summer's arrival means it's test match time again, so it was off to Lord's last weekend to watch our lads hammer the Pakistanis. Great occasion, plenty from the ranks of grocery's great and good lapping up the sunshine (and gallons of Champers). Lord MacLaurin of Tesco fame, and now of the ECB, in a fetching bright blue blazer, was busy with the flannelled fools and a former senior CWS man was keen to tell us all about the missed opportunities of the Co-op movement. But it wasn't all Champers. Many of us scoffed wonderful bacon sandwiches from the famous Tavern pub outside the ground. Missed opportunity for the MLC to promote British there  all the bacon was Dutch! On to Monday and the glorious Chelsea Flower Show. Merrydown's soft drinks brand Schloer sponsored a garden, in line with its strategy to target a grown-up, garden-loving audience. But while round the clock checks ensure that the flowers on display are fully protected, no one thought to put the same guard on bottles of Schloer  also on show in the sponsored garden  and they ended up getting pinched. So someone among the straw-hatted, floral garmented throng obviously enjoyed a cool glass of Schloer with their BBQs this week. Then came Wednesday and the CBI annual bash at Grosvenor House. Unlike most big grocery dinners, where good manners have been abandoned, you could actually hear the speakers without a constant hubbub of conversation going on among the diners. And, actually, Gordon Brown's speech wasn't all that bad. {{COUNTERPOINT }}
