Around 4,000 food producers from around the world met at The Terra Madre or mother Earth conference in Turin yesterday.

The producers met to agree steps to protect the individuality of their small-scale local produce against the domination of bigger food firms.

The conference was organised by Italy’s Slow Food Movement, and it attracted food producers from 132 countries. The producers included ploughmen, shepherds, bakers, fishermen, vintners and beekeepers.

The Prince of Wales is due to arrive at the conference today.
