Aussie leisure group Foster’s said its Carlton United Breweries is to close its Kent brewery in Sydney under a cost cutting programme to save A$100m a year.

The move follows Foster’s operational review which will also see CUB's various sales forces would be integrated into one to cover beer, spirits and cider. And the company is to introduce a new sponsorship programme and "rebalance" expenditure within the total marketing mix.

CUB managing director Trevor O'Hoy said: "CUB must continue to invest in product development and its marketing capability if it wants to ensure it keeps abreast of change and remains Australia's leading multi-beverage business.”

Lost production at the Kent brewery will be made up at its breweries at Yatala in Queensland and Matilda Bay in Western Australia.
