Carl McCann has succeeded his father Neil McCann as executive chairman of fresh produce supplier Fyffes.
Carl, who moves from the post of vice-chairman, joined Fyffes in 1980 from KPMG, where he had been a chartered accountant. He was finance director of Fyffes from 1983 to 1998 and took on the role of vice-chairman in 1988.
Neil will remain with the company as a non-executive director, making use of his
extensive industry knowledge.
He joined Fyffes in the 1950s and steered its growth for more than 30 years before leading the group’s stock market flotation in 1981. Since then the company, which reports annual sales of more than E2bn, said he had been at the forefront of the group’s expansion into the UK and continental Europe.
In addition to Carl’s appointment, Willie Walsh, chief executive of Aer Lingus, will become a non-executive director on January 1.
