Food manufacturer Northern Foods could be planning to sell its transport operations as part of a strategic review.

Reports suggest that the group is considering selling NFT Distribution, which distributes Northern Foods’ products and handles distribution for other food companies.

Last year NFT made an operating profit of £3.8m and pre-tax profit of £2.8m.

A spokesman for Northern Foods said that a sale was “certainly something we would be looking at.”

Reports suggest that possible interested parties in NFT could be transport company TDG or venture capitalists.

Last month Northern Foods warned that pre-tax profit for this financial would reach only £45m against £62.2m last year. It is expected to reveal full details of its strategic review on May 31.

Analysts predict that the group could break up its chilled foods arm as part of the review.
