The Consumer and Trading Standards Agency should be placed within the Office of Fair Trading, the new OFT chairman and chief executive Philip Collins and John Fingleton have said.

In a letter to Department of Trade and Industry consumer affairs minister Gerry Sutcliffe, Collins and Fingleton said that the OFT should take overall responsibility for competition and consumer policy to make markets work better.
