Parfetts Cash & Carry has promoted its group buying and trade marketing controller Bill Pace to the board as trading director.
The move is only the second appointment of a director from outside the family in Stockport-based Parfetts' 22-year history.
The first was Robert Miller who became financial director in 1989. Pace will work with Miller as well as managing director Steve Parfett, director Robert Parfett and founding chairman Alan Parfett.
Pace said one area he would particularly focus on was the continuing growth of Parfetts' retail club, which gives customers access to promotional deals and exclusive buying opportunities.Established in May 2001, it now has 230 members and Pace intends to recruit more.
Pace joined Parfetts in 1986 as joint general manager of its Aintree depot with Phil Caddick. He became buying and trade marketing controller in 1992.
Robert Parfett said: "The promotion recognises the fundamental importance of trading to our business and the contribution that Bill has made in this area. We are confident that he will similarly make a valuable contribution to board decision-making."
He added: "Bill is highly regarded by fellow wholesalers and the supplier community and his appointment will further enhance his standing."
