Paul Charmatz, the former MD of troubled electronic payment provider Payzone, has moved to Camelot Group, the company that runs the National Lottery, as managing director of commercial services.

In his three years in charge at Payzone, Charmatz steered the company through some difficult times including the merger of Alphyra and Cardpoint, and the sale of the company's Spanish, Italian and French businesses.

He told The Grocer he was proud of having achieved double-digit sales growth at the company and was looking forward to a new challenge. He has been replaced at Payzone by Bill Thomson, the former managing director of Barclaycard Business.

Thomson was responsible for overseeing the development of the division's contactless technology and international expansion strategy.
