An award-winning Scottish meat smokery has just doubled its capacity with a £280,000 investment and intends to focus on making bigger inroads into the foodservice sector.
The £1m family-owned Rannoch Smokery, based in Perthshire and which picked up five awards at this year’s Great Taste Awards, now has the capacity to produce 240 tonnes a year of smoked meat, game and poultry.
The company was dealt a blow in July when its contract with Sainsbury to supply seven lines into 86 stores was reduced to two lines in 30
stores. But managing director Richard Barclay said that he believed the loss would act as an impetus to expand business elsewhere.
“We are not really worried. Sainsbury’s action gave us a kick up the backside which helped us to refocus.”
Rannoch also supplies four own label products to Waitrose, its biggest customer.
