Sir Stuart Rose has bagged a new role with South African retailer Woolworths.

The former Marks & Spencer boss becomes a non-executive director of the food and clothing chain.

He stepped down as chairman earlier this month, to be replaced by Robert Swannell, having handed over the reins as chief executive to Marc Bolland last year.

Private equity group Bridgepoint Capital has already secured his services in an advisory capacity.

“Sir Stuart brings strong international retail experience to the board,” Woolworths said in a statement today.
