Thames Cash and Carry, one of the founder members of the Today’s Group, has celebrated its 21st anniversary with a £250,000 investment at its Reading depot.
Thames managing director Sucha Singh said the money had been spent to make the 30,000 sq ft depot more inviting to customers.
“We have new lighting, new aisle ends and a new logo. We are relaunching with a fresh new image,” he said.
The investment also included the installation of a new leading edge IT system, which Singh said was “one of the most advanced available”.
He said: “I have always been a strong believer in IT and we were one of the first wholesalers to introduce scanning.”
The business marked its new look by sending out full colour leaflets to 3,500 retailers and businesses in Berkshire.
The company, which operates from the single depot, has also developed a delivered business which now accounts for about 40% of turnover.
Singh said that future expansion plans could include a second depot, but this was not an immediate priority. “Retailers in Reading are fully catered for, but there would be room for a new cash and carry somewhere like Oxford,” he said.
