Uniq Prepared Foods has named its desserts business Riviera Desserts.

The business, based in Paignton, Devon, said that the name had been chosen by its 400 employees to reflect its location at the heart of the English Riviera.

The change coincides with the completion of a £4m extension to the site's production facilities, which has resulted in the factory expanding by 7,250 sq ft to 111,000 sq ft. About 50 new jobs have also been created.

The extra space has been used to add two production lines - one for the production of the Cadbury Chilled Desserts Twin Pot range, which it makes under a co-pack agreement with Müller, and the other for cheesecakes and trifles.

Hamish Renton, managing director of Riviera Desserts, said: "The extra capacity is critical as we look to expand. Uniq has underlined its commitment to Riviera Desserts by making more than £12m of cap-ex available to ensure that we are in a position to meet customer demand as we grow our portfolio."
