Alan Titchmarsh is fronting a new ad for Waitrose

Waitrose is running its first TV advert with Alan Titchmarsh this week to coincide with the launch of an online gardening TV channel.

The advert – which is broadcast today – will feature Titchmarsh talking about the importance of selecting the right varieties of strawberry to ensure a high standard of fruit.

Titchmarsh will also appear on Waitrose’s gardening channel, which launches online today at www.waitrose.tv.

He will give gardening tips to Waitrose customers in a series of 12 short ‘how-to’ videos. The videos will be presented by TV gardener Matt James, who will showcase a series of themed mini-gardens at Waitrose’s 4,000-acre Leckford Estate.

The videos will be uploaded fortnightly from July until October.

“Alan’s authority and knowledge really comes to the fore through this new channel, which will provide trustworthy advice to seasoned gardeners and horticultural novices alike,” said Waitrose marketing director Rupert Thomas.

Waitrose’s online gardening TV channel launches today.

Waitrose launched a TV section on its website at the end of last year, including videos on recipes as well as the company’s business and farming practices.

In March, it announced it would be opening gardening stalls outside 41 stores to support a range of 6,000 garden products.
