Waitrose has ordered a recall of two own-label salmon products after samples were found to contain the potentially fatal food poisoning bug listeria.
The affected products - 115g Scottish smoked salmon parcels and 100g Scottish poached salmon terrine - have been removed from shelves at all Waitrose stores.
Hundreds of packets of the fish have already been sold. Customers who purchased the products with date codes up to 28 August have been urged to return them for a refund.
Listeria causes listeriosis, a potentially fatal illness that affects the elderly and pregnant women in particular. Symptoms, which can take 90 days to develop, include headaches, fever, muscle pain and chills. At least 25 people have died from listeriosis already this year.
