Bidfood is set to open two new depots this year to support business growth, The Grocer can reveal.
The first of the two new sites will open in Glasgow in early spring.
The 90,000 sq ft depot will cover the west of Scotland area, supporting the business’s growth north of the border and helping it to meet increased demand from new and existing customers.
The second site in Bedfordshire will open in the autumn and cover 160,000 sq ft.
The depot will become one of the company’s largest sites, strengthening its existing service levels in the south east of England.
Bidfood said both depots would include state-of-the-art technology to help it reduce its carbon footprint.
It follows the business’s announcement in September 2021 that it would target net zero status by 2045.
“This is a really exciting time for the business, as we continue to grow our infrastructure to strengthen our support for customers,” said Bidfood COO Mark Wood.
“Both sites will enable us to operate from a high-quality and modern facility, which will alleviate pressure on existing depots in Scotland and the south east, as well as serve the communities in which they operate by providing jobs to local people.”
A third depot in the Midlands has already been commissioned. However, the business said this would not be active until 2024. The foodservice giant currently operates 24 depots across the UK.
