Carlsberg, the Danish brewer, has bought a 34.5% stake in Wusu Brewery in north west China. The Wusu Brewery has a capacity of 2.5 million hl and a 60% market share in the region. “The acquisition is a step further in fulfilling Carlsberg’s strategy to establish a strong position in the western Chinese provinces,” said Jesper Madsen, Carlsberg’s senior vice president for Asia. The brewery will be operated in a joint venture with the Blue Sword Group, a local company.
