Marc Bolland has put technology at the heart of his bid to get Marks & Spencer back on track.

From May, shoppers will be offered free wireless internet in all M&S stores.

Earlier this month, M&S said it would equip staff with iPads to give them quicker access to product information and improve the shopping experience.

Bolland announced the Wi-Fi plan while unveiling a new flagship store at Ellesmere Port in Cheshire. The new 150,000 sq ft store becomes the second-largest in the M&S estate behind its Marble Arch premises.

In July M&S announced a 2.8% fall in UK like-for-like sales – representing its worst quarterly performance in several years.
