Asda staff are set to benefit from the retailer’s biggest rewards package since the company was taken over by Wal-Mart in 1999.

More than 16,500 employees will share the £43m payout from Asda’s ‘sharesave’ bonus scheme. Last year the payout was £37.5m.

Staff that saved the maximum £250 a month for the last three years will receive a windfall in the region of £13,800 – almost £5,000 more than their initial investment.

Many staff have already decided what they intend to spend their money on. One employee has his eyes on a second-hand tractor while another is heading to an Elvis convention in Las Vegas.
