GlaxoSmithKline is to launch its iconic energy drink Lucozade into the Chinese market.

The company has signed a deal with Uni-President China Holdings to distribute the drink to supermarkets in the country.

The brand, which has moved away from its health drink image in the UK and is now positioned as a sports drink, will be marketed on health grounds in China.

The company is keen on developing the brand in other markets. Lucozade is currently sold in the UK, which accounts for 90% of its £382m sales, the Republic of Ireland and Hong Kong.
