SSP UK has awarded a three-year foodservice contract worth £60m to 3663 following a competitive tender.

The win will see 3663 supply more than six million items to SSP’s bars, restaurants and cafes across train stations and airports, including Upper Crust, Café Ritazza and The Pasty Shop.

SSP UK was previously one of DBC’s customers, which won the contract for £25m per year in 2010. However, the contract is believed to have contributed to DBC posting a £5m loss before entering administration in March.

Brakes, which bought rights to continue to serve some of DBC’s former customers from its administrators, decided not to serve the SSP contract, claiming it was not economically sustainable.

However 3663 said it was looking forward to continuing with the “profitable contract”.

“3663 is a highly efficient and profitable multi-temperature distribution business,” said a spokeswoman for the wholesaler.

“We are very proud to service SSP’s contract, which we won in a competitive tender pitch process. We cannot comment on the viability of the contract for other operators in the market.”
