Aldi is treating its smallest UK branch to a major revamp as part of its store modernisation programme.
The 8,000 sq ft Tooting store in South London has closed for nearly four weeks, from 19 August to 13 September, while the refurbishment is carried out.
Aldi’s £300m Project Fresh modernisation programme, launched in 2017, introduces hi-spec fixtures and fittings, new signage and extended ranges across fresh and alcohol. About 250 stores are due to have launched in the new format by the end of 2018.
Aldi confirmed the Tooting branch was closed as part of Project Fresh and said it would provide more in-store space for fresh, chilled and food-to-go ranges as well as simpler layouts, improved fixtures and brighter aisles.

The Tooting branch opened in 2016, following a similar convenience-style high street store opening in Kilburn in 2013. Unlike most Aldi branches, it has no car park.
The store already features an in-store bakery, an additional service typically added in the Project Fresh programme.
It also has more food to go than traditional stores and a reduced non-food Specialbuys range to fit the branch size, which is around 2,500 sq ft smaller than average.
Opening hours are longer than usual, from 7am to 11pm from Monday to Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sundays. Usual Aldi hours are 8am to 8pm on Mondays to Saturdays and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
