With last year’s golden quarter now firmly behind us, supermarkets and grocers have been releasing their Q3 and Christmas figures, revealing exactly how they fared during the crucial 2024/25 festive trading period.
Despite a slow start to the season, sales performance across the major mults soon began to pick up, reaching a record high of £14.6bn in the three weeks to Christmas as retailers slashed prices and ramped up promotional activity to woo shoppers.
And those savings allowed consumers to splurge elsewhere, as they traded up to premium own-label lines – with nine in 10 households buying at least one of these products over the period.
Our at-a-glance table below rounds up the winners and losers of the season, as we compare how each retailer performed during Christmas 2024.
