Marks & Spencer Penguin Party Cake

Inside this hand-decorated igloo cake (£20/1.5kg), complete with frolicking penguins, is a trompe l’oeil penguin face baked into the all-butter Madeira sponge. It follows trends in home baking for ‘surprise’ cakes.

Mr Kipling Elf Slices

Cake slices are a thriving format [up 2.7% in value, Kantar 52 w/e 21 July 2015], and Mr Kipling’s apple sponge slices with red and green icing (rsp: £1/6x27g) could produce elfy growth.

Aldi Musical Gingerbread Tin

Filled with traditional German gingerbread pfeffernüsse, these tuneful tins (rsp:£3.99/200g) each play one of six Christmas songs. For shortbread in a rotating musical lenticular tin, head to M&S.

McVitie’s Victoria Sapphire

UB has put on the ritz with a new premium version of its Victoria assortment (rsp: £6.50/385g). The mirror-effect pack contains foil-wrapped shortcake and cream biscuits fully coated in milk, white and dark chocolate.

Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Pecan & Caramel Bundt Cake

Surfing the zeitgeist by combining on-trend flavours and a bundt shape, this centrepiece (rsp: £12/800g) has a toffee and almond syrup and is topped with malt balls, golden salt crystals and holly leaves.

Bahlsen Poppy Seed Stollen

Continental Christmas markets are thriving, but the manufacturer of Choco Leibniz removes the need for a visit with seasonal German specialities including this stollen (rsp £4/400g), with a swirl of poppyseed filling.

Booths Teatime Box

Available to order, this brew-friendly selection (£12/38 pieces) includes stollen bites, Christmas cake slices, amaretto brownies, mini yule logs and mince pies made by Cumbrian bakery supplier Bells of Lazonby.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Cracker

Burton’s festive NPD includes this cracker (rsp: £5/164g) filled with Cadbury Dairy Milk biscuits. There’s also a Cadbury Delights carton and new assortments in its Cadbury Occasions and Christmas Jumper Tin.

Thomas J Fudge’s Salted Caramel Florentines

A permanent addition to the range but screaming Christmas louder than Santa in a tight belt, these almond-based Florentines (rsp: £3.50/8x19g) boast layers of salted caramel and milk chocolate.

McVitie’s Chocolate Digestives Christmas Slices

Available in Chocolate & Orange and Chocolate & Mint variants, these biscuit slices (rsp:£1/174g) are gently festive. McVitie’s Jaffa Cake Bars have also had a Christmas makeover, with a cranberry twist to the jam.
