Asda claimed another victory this week, with a £45.23 basket.

The retailer offered the most cheapest items, including the carrots (67p/kg), savoy cabbage (76p) and mango (£1). Its Granny Smith apples were also the cheapest (£1) after a 56p price decrease.

Tesco climbed two places with the most items on promotion as well as making four straight price drops, two of which made their Clover (£2.50) and Madeira cake (£1) the cheapest. The retailer also offered the cheapest cranberry sauce (50p).

Morrisons missed second placed by 24p but maintained third, offering the cheapest houmous (80p) and organic sausages (£2). The retailer made the biggest straight price cut this week, taking £1.22 off Nivea shair gel making it the cheapest, at £1.46.

Sainsbury’s slid two places to fourth, offering none of the cheapest items. The retailer added 40p to the base price of its mushrooms as well as 35p to the price of the Conference pears despite them being on an ongoing promotion.

No surprises from Waitrose as it placed fifth again. Its vegetable oil (98p) was the cheapest, as were its Maynards sweets (71p), which were reduced to half price. The retailer also made four price hikes, and its total basket price was £1.81 more than it would have been last week.
