A premium pink cider is out this summer from Somerset cider maker Aspall.

Unlike Scottish & Newcastle's pink fruit cider, Jacques, Perronelle's Blush is more like a kier royale. The 5.4% abv drink is a blend of 100% English apples and Crème de Mur blackberry liqueur. Aimed at 18 to 45-year-old women it is said to taste like blackberry and apple pie.

Aspall is hoping to capitalise on the current popularity for rosé wines and cider.

"Most ciders are premium mainstream products, which tend to appeal to men," said Aspall director Barry Chevallier Guild. "There is a gap in the market for introducing women to the category and targeting the top end."
