Coconut-based ice cream brand Bessant & Drury is expanding into the dairy-free yoghurt market.

News of the expansion comes four months after Gü founder James Averdieck bought a controlling interest in the business, which produces dairy-free ice creams stocked by retailers including Waitrose.

Early next month, the supplier is rolling out the first in a range of coconut-based yoghurts to the 40-strong Itsu restaurant and shop chain. The Alphonso Mango & Passion Fruit line is free from soya and gluten, and vegan friendly.

“These coconut yoghurts are bang on trend,” said Itsu founder Julian Metcalfe.

Averdieck is talking to retailers about listings.
