Bacchus

Upmarket English winemaker Chapel Down has added a new 2016 Bacchus to its Kit’s Coty range of wines.

The wine is made with Bacchus grapes from Chapel Down’s Kent vineyard, which were harvested in September that year and matured in French oak barrels.

The style had “guava, melon and peach aromas with background oak influence,” said Chapel Down head winemaker Josh Donaghay-Spire. “The palate is pure and focused with more tropical flavours and an exceptional length.

”I have a particular affinity with the Bacchus grape variety, owing to the fact it is so well suited to the English terroir coupled with its versatility in the wine styles it can produce.”

It has launched online through Chapel Down’s website, with an abv of 13% (rsp: £25/75cl).

It follows the launch of a new range of small-batch craft beers with ‘a winemaker’s twist’ from Curious Drinks, Chapel Down’s brewing arm. The first beer in its ‘Curiouser & Curiouser’ portfolio, a 4.9%, wild-fermented sour made in collaboration with the Somerset-based Wild Beer Company, rolled out earlier this month (rsp: £20/75cl).
