The HSE is putting workplace accidents under the spotlight in its joint initiative with the Local Authorities Co-ordinators of Regulatory Services. A cross-industry inspection blitz also launched this week. Starting in the West Midlands, the Watch Your Step drive aims to cut injuries at work, such as the 40,000 falls that happen each year.
On September 21, Asda pleaded guilty to four offences at its Hull store. In one incident, a storage trolley with 144kg of chilled chickens collapsed on to an employee as she tried to show her supervisor that the equipment was faulty.
On September 5, Asda pleaded guilty to seven offences at its Roehampton store in Wandsworth. These included 51 accidents on its travelator.
