The first Eurospars are due to open on the UK mainland next month.
Tates, the retail arm of AF Blakemore, which distributes for Spar in the Midlands and parts of Wales, will open a 5,000 sq ft store in Nottingham at the beginning of May and a 6,800 sq ft store in Sheffield at the end of May.
Both sites for the larger format Spar fascia are former Somerfield stores that have been bought from The Co-operative Group following the takeover of Somerfield.
"The stores were successful so we are confident this will work for us," said Tates MD Geoff Hallam. The stores will bring Tates' store numbers to 211.
Meanwhile, the Henderson Group has opened its 14th Eurospar in Northern Ireland. The 6,000 sq ft store in Bangor, Co Down, is its first Eurospar under its Store of the Future programme.
Constructed from recycled building materials and designed to conserve heat and use low energy lighting, the store's carbon footprint was 28% smaller than a normal store's and its energy bills would be 22% less, said the group.
The low-carbon blueprint will be used for all Spar stores built or refurbished in Northern Ireland.
"This new store is part of Henderson's long-term plans to reduce significantly the carbon footprint of its stores," said Mark McCammond, operations director for Henderson Retail.
