Sainsbury is to expand its joint fuel and convenience store operation with the addition of 100 more of its Sainsbury’s Local formats at Shell petrol stations which will create up to 2,000 new jobs.

After trials combining Shell's branded forecourts and Sainsbury's Local format at Roehampton Lane, Lewisham, Horley, Forest Hill, Thame, Hornsey Rise, the new stores will provide a range of the supermarket’s grocery and non-food items as well as Shell's car care and lubricant products.

Sainsbury group chief executive Sir Peter Davis said: “We believe our convenience store offer is the best in the UK and by working with Shell we can bring Sainsbury's quality convenience food shopping into new areas of the UK and within easy reach of millions of new customers."
