Spar UK’s trading team has been strengthened with the addition of four new recruits as it has undergone a restructuring.
Group trading director Peter Miller said the new structure would remove complexity and help to align the central trading team along category lines with their counterparts at the Spar wholesale companies.
Samantha Hanvey has joined Spar as head of fresh foods. She was previously category development manager for fresh at Safeway for products such as ready meals, breads and sandwiches. She spent seven years at Safeway as senior category buying manager for
many fresh categories including food to go, deli and sandwiches.
The fresh food team has also been augmented by the appointment of Total Oil’s chilled food category manager Rachel Dawson as trading manager fresh foods.
Altaf Khan is the new trading manager grocery, joining from Bestway where he was a senior buyer for grocery products. Safeway development manager for beers, wines and spirits, Giles Walker, joins as trading manager for wines and spirits.
As a result of the restructure, trading director Tom Davies and trading controller Alan Maxted have left Spar UK.
Miller said: “The new trading structure means we shall be more demanding of suppliers so they recognise the true value of a route to market to some 12 million customers a week.”
