Convenience store home delivery app Snappy Shopper has seen sales on the platform increase by 534% since lockdown was announced.

The Scottish-based online service, initially trialled in Dundee before being rolled out to the rest of the UK mainland, provides retailers with a home delivery solution that it claims generates stores up to £10,000 per week in additional sales.

The latest figures show the number of customers ordering goods via the app has increased by 360%, with average basket spend increasing from £21.52 to £32.49 during the coronavirus pandemic.

The results come as Spar wholesaler AF Blakemore introduced the service to four stores in the Wrexham area.

Blakemore has plans to expand the offer to 250 stores including both company-owned and independents by the end of April.

More than 1,000 products will be available to buy via Snappy Shopper including bread, milk, groceries, babycare, household, cigarettes and tobacco, alcohol, soft drinks, snacks, newspapers, petfood and more.

Since its launch three weeks ago, there have been 900 orders made across the four trial stores.

“Now that we are able to expand our delivered service we’ve partnered with Snappy Shopper to provide a digital solution,” said Blakemore retail managing director Matt Teague.

“To date both channels have performed exceptionally well, but most importantly our new services mean that any of our customers who can’t come to stores have a way to ensure they can continue to receive their daily essentials direct to their door.”

Snappy Shopper CEO Mark Steven said: “The solution allows shoppers to order via the mobile app and the website, and have products delivered to their door in 30 to 60 minutes - although current demand with Covid-19 means that orders may be delivered outside this timeframe.

“The app automatically highlights participating stores in the shopper’s local area and allows them to order and pay via card or cash.

“The platform also provides the retailer with customer insights that can be used to drive sales while built-in functionality allows stores to target customers with special offers via push notifications.”
