As previously noted here, the World Cup and Wimbledon have made this summer a time of famine for food on TV.

Right now it's restricted to the occasional punnet of strawberries being launched skywards when Andy Murray, that proudest of honorary Englishman, smashes down another of the Queen's finest aces.

Panorama (Tuesday, BBC1) seemed a likely candidate, with yet another climate change exposé promising the usual bashing of biscuit makers and beef eaters.

But the best we got was a mention for last year's non-existent "barbecue summer" and a cameo by Defra's avuncular top boffin, Bob Watson. Once, having a beard and wearing glasses gave you instant gravitas. Sadly for Watson, his look has been tarnished a tad by Harold Shipman and Radovan Karadzic.

Online it's far livelier. Sainsbury's last month rolled out its tie-up with MSN (http://food.uk.msn.com), a virtual marriage of the globe's most visionary businessmen, Bill Gates and Justin King. The peach-painted site mixes recipes with adverts, video features, adverts, a poll, some adverts and tips for eating more healthily and "shopping smarter" shopping at Sainsbury's, then.

It's nicely presented, if a bit clunky in places, and there's plenty to look at if you're all poked out from Facebook. But it's unlikely to revolutionise the web in the way that clip of a dog in sunglasses did.

And Waitrose has set up a channel on YouTube (www.youtube.com/waitrose) in case its younger shoppers ever find out what the internet is. The site collects all your favourite moments from the Delia and Heston ads in one handy place, so you don't have to buy the DVD box set on Amazon. With the £40 you'll save on that, why not buy some Essential Waitrose peas?

Delia's certainly been keeping busy. While plucky minnows such as Brazil and Spain go on with their unseemly scuffle for silverware, she's churning out a recipe a day on deliaonline.com, each apparently themed to a team taking part.

It's not clear who the salmon is based on. Maybe it's a wry nod to Rooney's diving, or England's fearsome urge to get home as soon as possible, like fish heading upstream in spawning season.
