Aldi Managers

Aldi has announced a recruitment drive to fill 4,000 vacancies across its stores and regional distribution centres.

The roles are predominantly for store assistants, assistant store managers and deputy store managers.

All store employees earn at least £8.53 per hour and £9.75 if they work in London, making Aldi the UK’s highest-paying supermarket, the retailer said.

UK and Ireland chief executive Matthew Barnes said: “We need more high-performing individuals to help us achieve our growth plans. In return, we offer market-leading pay and benefits and career development opportunities that are unrivalled in the supermarket sector.”

Aldi currently employs 29,000 employees across 700 stores. It plans to open about 70 stores this year, and to grow its estate to over 1,000 by 2022. The German discounter has doubled its market share since 2010 and is the UK’s fifth-largest supermarket with a 6.9% market share [Kantar Worldpanel 12 w/c 18 June 2017].

Barnes added: “The success of Aldi in the UK is due to the hard work and commitment of our employees, and they are crucial to our future expansion plans.

“Our approach is to recruit the best people in retail and invest in their long-term career development to ensure they operate in an environment where they feel engaged, motivated and challenged.”

Aldi was named Employer of the Year at the Grocer Gold Awards last month.
