Street Eats CEO Paul Bates

Food-to-go supplier Street Eats is investing £4m in a new sandwich making factory to significantly increase its capacity.

The move is also expected by company bosses to create 300 jobs once the site is fully operational.

Street Eats, which trades as Tasties of Chester, predominantly supplies customers in the foodservice sector, including hospitality, events, travel, education and healthcare.

Work to fit out the 40,000 sq ft factory, on the Stockley Close business estate in West Drayton, near Heathrow, will begin later this month and is expected to be completed by spring.

CEO Paul Bates said the factory, which will boost manufacturing capability three-fold, was built to meet the increased demand for Street Eats products among its existing customer base and to develop a nationwide distribution model.

“The new factory represents a very significant investment and really serves to underline the commitment of our investment partners to developing the Street Eats food-to-go business,” he added.

“Our factory in Chester is operating at almost full capacity and, as we continue to win new business, we have been looking for a new site for some time. This fantastic new facility gives us a very strong platform for growth over the years ahead.”

About 300 jobs are expected to be ultimately created at the factory, with a new management team expected to be in place by the end of the first quarter ahead of the start of manufacturing at the beginning of June.

“The new factory gives us the potential to massively increase our manufacturing capacity to meet the growing demand for our products, particularly in the south of the country.

“We are anticipating that the majority of the volume will be generated through a number of key business wins and we are also working with our existing customers to understand those who may be better served by moving production to the new site and hence freeing up some extra capacity for us to utilise in Chester.”

Street Eats, along with sister brand Pasta King, is owned by PK Food Concepts.
