Dóttir, an Icelandic skyr brand, has launched into the UK market for the first time with a listing in Waitrose.
The product is made in Iceland using an original skyr recipe traditionally passed from mother to ‘dottir’ (daughter), created through traditional straining methods which create a “thick, creamy texture”.
The range (rsp: £1.80) is launching in two flavours: Strawberry Balance and Vanilla Boost.
It is naturally high in protein, at 11g per 100g, and is also enriched with added vitamins and nutrients which the brand said made it the “first mood-based functional skyr”.
Founders Páll Edward and Dagur Þór Hilmarsson were “fuelled by a shared vision” to create the brand.
“We wanted to build a brand inspired by the original founders of skyr – Icelandic women – where strength embraces femininity and every product supports the wellbeing of the next generation,” they said.
The business said it was entering the UK market at a “pivotal moment” with the rise of protein-led eating “firmly mainstream”.
