Non-profit environmental law organisation ClientEarth has warned the EC against “harmful” subsidies that “could lead to overfishing”.
It comes after the EC launched a consultation on plans to amend state aid fisheries guidelines, which could greenlight funding for vessels in overseas territories administered by France, Portugal and Spain.
Lawyers said the change would be “detrimental to the sustainability of fisheries in the outermost regions”.
