The Gaymer Cider Co has announced the return of Dry Blackthorn – just a year after ditching the original recipe for a more “contemporary” flavour.

The cider maker said it would revive the original dry variant alongside its successor, following a campaign by drinkers in its southwest heartland that included a group on Facebook.

“We underestimated the passion people in the South West have for Dry Blackthorn and have been bowled over by their determination to get their favourite cider back,” said Gaymers managing director Peter Spencer.

“Before we changed the recipe 12 months ago… many cider drinkers told us they liked the new, more contemporary taste.

“However, it became clear that some cider drinkers in the southwest wanted the original Dry Blackthorn. We have listened to these supporters and it’s their successful campaigning which has brought Dry Blackthorn back.”
