Coors is rolling out the wheat version of its Grolsch lager brand into the UK off-trade this month, following its on-trade launch last year.

Grolsch Premium Weizen, rsp £1.98, is a 5.3% abv beer brewed to reflect a combination of the full-bodied, creamy Belgian-style wheat beers and the lighter, more elegant German styles. Grolsch Brewmaster Guy Evers said it went well with fish and vegetarian dishes and could also be used in cooking - in a sauce for mussels or for adding to vinaigrette, for example.

"Wheat has been used as a brewing ingredient since ancient times and provides beer with a fresh-tasting, slightly exotic flavour," he said.

The new beer comes in a 50cl bottle, should be served cold and poured in its entirety into a single glass. "This is so the proteins and yeast flakes that float in the beer drop to the bottom and give Weizen a soft, refreshing taste," said Evers.
