Clipper has created a new box featuring a ‘reinforced structure’ whilst removing the unrecyclable inner foil bags which they previously contained

Clipper Teas has moved its large-format boxes into fully recyclable packaging.

The tea mainstay has created a new box featuring a “reinforced structure” to “lock in” the taste and aroma of the tea whilst removing the unrecyclable inner foil bags which they previously contained.

It means the brand’s packs are now fully recyclable and suitable for kerbside collection for the paper recycling stream.

It is the result of a £1m investment which saw the brand develop a new production line especially for the new packs.

Clipper claims the switch will save a minimum of 20 tonnes of metalised plastic from going to landfill or inceneration per year.

It also plans to replace the inner foil bags in its smaller packs with a film that will be fully recyclable alongside other household plastics at supermarket collection points from June.

Having launched a biodegradable teabag in 2018, the brand was “determined to keep momentum and address non-essential plastics across our ranges”, said Bryan Martins, marketing and category director at Clipper owner Ecotone UK.
