M&S’s Romford team has become a social media sensation

Marks & Spencer has joined forces with TikTok on a new Christmas song that is set to raise money for charity.

The retailer’s Romford team, which is known for its viral social media videos, has released the track ‘This is not just a Christmas song’ to raise funds for its charity partners, Shelter and Together for Short Lives.

The song, which celebrates M&S Food Christmas products, was accompanied by a festive music video shot in the aisles of the Romford branch. The video debuted on TikTok on Wednesday morning.

All profits from streaming the song will be donated to the selected charities, whilst TikTok users will also be able to contribute directly via the donation sticker in the app.

“The M&S Romford account really has captured the hearts of the British TikTok community with their joyful in-store antics, bringing humour to the everyday and giving us all a reason to smile,” said TikTok UK head of partnerships & community, James Stafford.

“We are delighted to partner with M&S on the launch of their first Christmas song and we wish the M&S Romford team all the very best as they raise money for two very worthwhile causes this Christmas!”

TikTok has also developed a ‘story of’ video to showcase the rise of Team Romford through the social media platform’s ranks. The team’s videos have racked up over 1.4 million likes on TikTok so far.

M&S has set up individual accounts for all its stores on different social media platforms as a way to engage customers and bring the Food brand to younger audiences.

“The whole store is buzzing. 2021 has been an incredible year for us, who would have thought that the videos we were making would lead to us launching a Christmas song?” said store colleague and the song’s original writer Jack Brooker.
