Ranjit Singh has agreed to acquire an Irish poultry supplier to add to his private investment portfolio.

Grove Turkeys, which trades as Grove Farm, was founded in 1972 and supplies turkeys and poultry added-value products to the retail and foodservice markets in Ireland and the UK.

The investment vehicle is independent from Boparan Holdings, so the business will not become part of 2 Sisters Food Group. Monaghan-based Grove was acquired by Kerry Group in 1988 and remained part of the Irish food giant until an MBO led by CEO Tom O’Driscoll in 2006.

The existing Grove management team and staff will continue to run the business.

“Grove will provide an excellent opportunity as an entry to the turkey sector and we look forward to building on the success of the existing team,” Ranjit Singh said.

The private office added Grove was a relatively small-scale business, with sales of about £20m a year.

The deal, which needs clearance from Irish regulators, marks the initial step into the turkey sector for the office, which invests in businesses operated by individual management teams.
