Industry veteran Anderson began his career at Quaker Oats in 1972

The commercial manager of Filippo Berio UK has retired after more than a decade in the role and 40 years in the grocery industry.

David Anderson joined the leading olive oil supplier in 2007 and has been described as “instrumental” in building the UK business, securing new retailers including the Co-op, and driving distribution of the brand into various trade channels.

Anderson began his career at Quaker Oats in 1972, where he spent 12 years.

Prior to joining Filippo Berio, he worked as a national account manager for Del Monte, during which time he secured new Asda business. He also spent six years with RH Amar, where he was promoted to sales director, and previously held positions with Napolina and Ridpath Pek.

Anderson told The Grocer he planned to spend his retirement “playing more golf, travelling and watching the England cricket team abroad”.

“David has been with Filippo Berio since 2007 and has been instrumental in building our UK business,” said Filippo Berio MD Walter Zanre. “I have worked with David for many years, he is both a valued colleague and friend, and I would like to thank him for his support and wish him the very best for his well-earned retirement.”

The news comes after Andy Coult joined the olive oil firm as its new UK sales director in April.

Coult previously spent seven years as general manager for Grace Foods UK, where he was responsible for commercial, marketing and procurement.
