The Recycling Association has announced a new leadership structure, naming Paul Sanderson as CEO and Chris Burton as MD of its trading division, IWPP.
Their appointments come as Simon Ellin prepares to retire at the end of next month, stepping down as CEO of both The Recycling Association and IWPP (Independent Waste Paper Producers).
Veteran trade journalist Sanderson has provided communications and consultancy services to The Recycling Association since 2015 and has been involved in the recycling sector since 2004, when he joined Materials Recycling World magazine.
Sanderson will join the association on 1 March, while his recycling market news service, REB Market Intelligence, will be integrated into the work of the association, becoming a benefit for members later in the year.
He will be responsible for membership of The Recycling Association, policy development, communications, events and pushing Traqa – digital product for the recycling industry, which tracks the movement of materials in real time. He will also be secretary of the United Kingdom Security Shredding Association.
Burton will head the IWPP team in Daventry, continuing and developing relationships with trading partners. He has been at the subsidiary for 12 years, first as commercial manager and then commercial director. Prior to the IWPP, he worked for the likes of Bell Waste Control and Veolia Environmental Services.
“I’m delighted that Chris and Paul will be taking on these roles under a new structure,” said The Recycling Association president Craig Curtis. The two men had “worked closely together over many years and have a fantastic relationship”.
Curtis was “very confident that The Recycling Association and IWPP will continue to go from strength to strength under this new leadership,” he added.
Sanderson said he was “excited to take on the role of chief executive”, while Burton said being made IWPP MD was “a huge honour”.
