Road Haulage Association CEO Richard Burnett is stepping down from his role.
Burnett tendered his resignation this week and will leave on 31 December. He has held the position of CEO since September 2014, before which he spent almost 25 years in a variety of transport and logistics roles.
“After seven unforgettable years as the RHA’s chief exec, I have decided it is time for me to step down,” he said.
“It’s been a challenging time for so many reasons and I have given all my energy to representing our members and the industry as a whole, but now feel ready for a new challenge. I’m incredibly proud to have led the transformation of the RHA during my time here, creating the strong and diverse association we see today.”
RHA national chairperson Moreton Cullimore said: “On behalf of the RHA board of directors and all the RHA employees I would like to thank him for everything he has achieved and wish him the very best for his future endeavours.”
Burnett’s move comes at the end of a turbulent year for the organisation which saw it embroiled in a row with the government, which accused the RHA of leaking details of a key supply chain meeting to the press, leading to September’s panic buying of fuel and subsequent shortages. The RHA has denied it was the source of the leak.
In October RHA member Europa Worldwide left the trade body, with MD Andrew Baxter saying it was “substantially to blame” for the fuel crisis, and also attacked its handling of the UK road haulage sector’s preparations for Brexit.
No details have yet been released of who will succeed Burnett.
