Foodservice company Brakes has joined forces with the Marine Stewardship Council to deliver the MSC’s Fish & Kids project, which will offer sustainable seafood choices in English schools.
Brakes and its subsidiary, M&J Seafood will work with the MSC to deliver the three-year project, which is funded by Defra. Surrey Commercial Services, a department of Surrey County Council, will pilot the project in Surrey
primary schools in the first year.
Fish & Kids will be extended to schools across England from May 2006. The project will increase the range of MSC-labelled fish options on school menus and will also provide educational projects for pupils.
Brakes and M&J will develop new MSC-labelled products to add to its existing school meals range, which already includes hoki fish fingers, salmon nuggets and a hoki burger.
