Cheesies comes in Cheddar, Emmental and Gouda

Snacks startup Cheesies is set to make its major high street debut with a range designed to “change the way consumers eat cheese”.

Its three variants – Cheddar, Emmental and Gouda (rsps: £1.29/20g & £2.49/60g) – are set to land in Whole Foods Market from 15 September. Each is made with no other ingredient than cheese that has been dried for around two days and then baked to create pieces, which the brand describes as “crunchy popped balls”.

Already available online and in selected independent retailers, Cheesies’ ambient snacks are carb-free and provide up to 44g of protein per 100g. Satfat per 100g is around 32g while salt is an average of 1.9g.

The brand – which sources its cheese from the UK and the Netherlands – is the creation of former Innocent employees David Folkman and Craig Jones. It launched earlier this year with the aim of tapping “the growth of mini or snacking cheese, the fastest growing subcategory, now worth £115m” they said.

Cheesies saw “enormous potential for category growth by making cheese more versatile” Folkman added. “We are removing the constraints of cheese being kept in the fridge, meaning more people can benefit from the natural high-protein and zero-carb qualities of cheese on more occasions.
