Teapigs is launching its first decaf tea.
Made using the CO2 method “to gently decaffeinate the tea leaves”, the NPD offered “all the award-winning full flavour of Teapigs everyday tea, but with none of the caffeine”, said the brand.
The tea – which features “100% plant based packaging” – will be available for general wholesale order and online from April (rsp: £3.99/15 teabags).
As the premium decaf black tea market was “currently pretty limited”, the new launch offered “an exciting trade-up for stockists and customers from a trusted brand”, said Teapigs.
It would particularly appeal to pre- and young family consumer groups who were “willing to spend that little bit more on better caffeine-free teas to enjoy throughout the day”, the brand added.
The “harsh” decaffeination process could often leave shoppers with “a sad and tasteless tea”, said Teapigs co-founder Louise Cheadle.
“Our decaf uses the CO2 method, which is a lot more gentle on the leaves and gives you a stronger, better-tasting brew,” she said.
It comes after Teapigs last year moved into the RTD sector with a trio of kombuchas made from its teas.
